Why I Love To Shoot Boudoir: Charleston Boudoir Photographer

I can honestly tell you that GB happened entirely by accident. A very magical, happy accident born out of one of the lowest points of my life. At 23, I was completely lost, lonely, and depressed. I had just quit school for a second time, worked at a job that I hated, and had zero motivation to do anything. I was eating too much, drinking too much, and not sleeping enough. One day I woke up and decided I had enough. I found a therapist and joined a gym. One of the suggestions I received was to find a hobby.

Luckily, I had a lot of friends that trusted me to get naked in front of a camera. As I photographed them, I envied their confidence. I envied their “perfect” bodies. What I didn’t realize is that many of them were insecure and felt uncomfortable in their own skin. I had no idea that when they stepped in front of my camera, they were feeling vulnerable and raw. It wasn’t until much later, these women began to share with me how they felt transformed, self assured, and even sexy during their shoot.

It was then that I understood that it’s about so much more than photographs. The photographs were just the mementos of their experience. Little reminders about the power they held within themselves. From moments like that, I realized that I had found my passion.

Seeing a woman walk through the door, shaking with anxiety and wracked with fear, and knowing that in a few short hours, she will feel exhilarated and confident is, THE BEST thing about shooting boudoir. The transformation that comes from connection and trust is something that I don’t take lightly. It is truly an honor when someone chooses me to be their photographer.

Check out these posts from my sessions with my boudoir giveaway winners. Both of these women had a transformational experience and shared their stories.
