Every once in a while I get an urge to do something different. I like a challenge. I like to learn. I like to grow. I've definitely learned that if I am going to grow, I need to try new things. Learning to shoot and find my groove in a new studio after being in the same place for the last 4 years is definitely a challenge. When I first learned to shoot glamour and boudoir photos using strobes and other sources of artificial light, and only recently have I found a style of shooting with natural light that I love. I was dying to experiment with some beautiful portraits with a clean, classic look rather than the same old Victoria's Secret push up bras and crazy backgrounds. So I dug around on Pinterest for a couple of weeks for some inspiration and pulled it together. Using a few vintage slips I found at an amazing shop in Rhode Island this summer and busting out my sewing machine to make a tutu, everything started coming together. Carlee came to the shoot with some simple wardrobe items and Shannon blew it way with her hair and makeup skills. Determined to shoot with only natural light and a couple of white reflectors, I can't believe how amazing these images came out. I am so grateful to Carlee and Shannon for helping me to execute my vision and for allowing me to "just do my thing." PS... There are still 2 more sets of images from this shoot I have to share! Stay tuned.
Every so often we have some clients that come to our studio with 5 bags of clothes, lingerie, shoes, you know, the works- and saying "I know I brought too much, but I just wanted to make sure we had options." Music to my ears! It thrills me when a client turns herself over to the process, that's when we really find the space and creativity to make some amazing images. I love being able to sift through piles of a client's wardrobe and let my head go a little bit. Something awesome happens when a clients trusts that we will make them look beautiful. Don't get me wrong, it's great when a client has ideas or inspiration to work from, but if you are trying to copy and exact pose of a 6'1" supermodel that weighs 100 pounds, its definitely going to lose some of the magic of "you." The images below are of Shannon, our makeup artist. Granted, I've shot her photos a hundred times. Something is very different about the woman in these images though... She trusted me completely, and she gave herself permission to feel beautiful. Does that mean you feel it the entire time, hell no! You're going to feel silly, awkward, and have an "I can't believe I'm doing this" moment, but as long as you give yourself that permission to experience feeling good about yourself- even just for a few minutes, something changes in you. There's nothing sexier and more beautiful than a woman that feels confidence from within. These are some images shot at our awesome new studio located in Collingswood, New Jersey. We made use of both the front and back porches, as well as our beautiful boudoir set. Shannon brought with her a long, white, crochet dress she's had in her closet for years. As soon as I saw it, I knew what I wanted to do. Loveeeeee these images. For reals.
We also used a lacy bodysuit we had here at the studio, along with a cute leather jacket from Shannon's wardrobe. I think these images also show that you don't need to show a ton of skin to look sexy.
